The Must Have Meatball

Eid-Ul-Fitr or most likely heard as Idul Fitri means celebrating the breaking of the fasting month. It marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, and is celebrated during the first three days of the month of Syawal.

On the day of Eid, Muslims gather early in the morning in outdoor locations or mosques to perform the Eid prayer. It is not a festival related in any way to worldly affairs. Its significance is purely spiritual. Here the Muslims thank God for having given them the will, the strength and the endurance to observe fast and obey His commandment during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Muslims celebrate this day to celebrate the performance of 30 days of fasting both mentally and physically. The Takbir(Muslim prayer) is recited after having confirmation that the moon of Syawal is sighted on the eve of the last day of Ramadan. It continues until the start of the Eid prayer.

Before the Eid prayer begins, every Muslim who is able must pay Zakat al-fitr an alms for the month of Ramadan. This equates to about 2 kilograms (4.4 lb) of a basic foodstuff (wheat, barley, dates, raisins, etc.), or its cash equivalent, and is typically collected at the mosque. This is distributed to needy local Muslims prior to the start of the Eid prayer. It can be given at any time during the month of Ramadan.

In some of the muslim countries, a holiday of three days is declared and the atmosphere is of total festivity and joyiety everywhere. Peole great each other by saying 'Selamat Idul Fitri, Mohon Maaf Lahir dan Bathin' and hug each other to show their happiness on this day.

In Indonesia and many other countries a national holiday is declared to celebrate this festival.

As for my family, the routine start on the eve before Eid. The family from my father's side usually gathered in my grandparents' house, but since my grandma passed away last year, we now gathered at my aunt's house. We eat great food, pray together and sit in a circle and everybody has to speak up their mind.

In the morning of Eid, after praying, we go to the family of my mother's side. My grand mother and my mom's step sister family. The special food in our family most likely the same as most of other family In Indonesia, we have Ketupat (sticky rice), along with Opor Ayam, Rendang, but at my mom's step sister, she always cook this special meatball.

Something's missing though. I no longer with my boyfriend this year. Miss him much.

Now I wish you to have a blessed Eid. Let's forgive and forget.
