Coldplay and the Amazing Race Asia
How's having breakfast in Denpasar dinner in Bangkok brunch in Phuket and dinner in Kuala Lumpur then supper in Denpasar sounds to you? Fun?
Yes it sounds very fun indeed, but not in 24 hours. Trust me, you need a lot of energy. But it's still fun.
The story begin when my best friend give me his Coldplay concert ticket because he and his wife cannot go due to their boy's health. They live in Jakarta, while I live in Bali. And it was Wednesday April 5th, 2017 when he called me, and the Coldplay concert was on April 7th. Yep, less then 48 hours. At first I thought I wouldn't make it, the flight price was overrated, even for the low cost carrier, it just didn't make sense.
But my husband loves me that much that he was still trying to get me a ticket. I wasn't such a big fan of Coldplay, but it's a must-seen-concert that you have to put on your list. I used to work for EMI and Coldplay was always on my list.
So yeah, long story short, I left Bali for Bangkok on the day of the concert, Friday. I landed at Don Mueang International airport at 3pm, and the concert was scheduled to start at 9pm after an opening act. I thought it would be save for me to reach Rajamangala Stadium before time and get something to eat. Unfortunately, the immigration queue was taking forever. I stand for 3 hours to get out of the airport. By the time I went out, I get a local number so I can contacted my friends and waited for a taxi. Bangkok's traffic jam is horrible, and it was after office hour. I gave up, I thought. But then in the middle of it, I saw an ojek (motorcycle ride), I asked my taxi to let me off in one of the ojek stop. Pay another 150 Baht, it was the most craziest ride I've ever been. He rode the motorcycle like there is no tomorrow!! But he got me arrived at 8.30pm. Ran inside with my friends and not late to see Coldplay. But I was sweating, hungry, and carry my backpack during the concert.
The concert was amazing! Chris Martin engaged the audiences pretty good and everyone sing along, screaming and I really enjoyed the show. The concert done around 11pm and my friends and I ran to our taxi (which they already booked earlier to pick us up) and we made the right decision to ran, it's the only way to compete with thousand of people. We arrived at the hotel Ibis Bangkok Siam around 12 midnight, put my backpack and walked a bit to grab supper in one of the local food stall: Mc.Donalds. Around 1.30am we're going back to the hotel, I finally can lay down in bed for a while to get some energy, took a shower and rest my eyes a bit before took off to the airport at 4am, cause my flight back was at 6am.
To Denpasar? No! My flight is going to Phuket first! It was a two hour flight from Bangkok to Phuket and my flight is still at 2pm. I have 8 hours to spend but I do not dare to go out from the airport. Not to mention I have to moved from Domestic terminal to International terminal. What I did was sleeping and tried the whole restaurants you can find outside on the check in area. From Tom Yam Soup to Mango Sticky Rice and coffee afterwards. Thank God the flight to KL was on time, even though I still had plenty of time before continue to my Denpasar flight.I plan to go to the city and treat myself a Nasi Kandar. I took KLIA Express and my friend was already waiting for me in her car. We drove to Pelita Nasi Kandar, and I ate a lot! She drove me back to KLIA Express and I took the next train to the airport where I found out that my flight was delayed until 1am, from the original schedule 11pm.
Imagine the last shower I took was at 3am and I haven't been properly sleep. Tried to find hotel inside the airport, but it was full booked. I don't know how did I manage to keep myself awake until 1am. Arrived in Bali at 4am, and went back to husband's hug! That was the best feeling ever.
Anyway, the concert was awesome! Even if you're not a big fan of Coldplay, it was totally worth the journey!
